Cadillac Mountain

Home > Photo Galleries > Cadillac Mountain

Cadillac Mountain, at 1530 feet, is the highest point on Mount Desert Island. From the top of Cadillac, we could see most of Mount Desert Island, the surrounding coastline and the out-lying islands, making it a perfect vantage point from which to discuss the geological history of the area. Though Cadillac is the highest mountain on the island, I chose the North Face Trail as our first hike because it is a gradual climb with few steep spots. Having 'conquered' the highest mountain on the island was a confidence builder for the students, though they could have no idea that steeper climbs awaited them.
